I try to strike a balance between lightweight, convenience, and cost. I buy budget options when I can—or even better, used gear—but occasionally I’ll splurge when the quality or weight savings seem worth it. I usually don’t count ounces and I’ll carry heavier stuff if it makes my life easier on the trail or at camp. And I always leave room for some camera gear.
